Library Tools for Parents

Our Early Literacy Support collection offers a wide range of resources designed to aid reading and language skills development. This collection includes our Little Levelled Readers kits, Vox and Wonderbooks, Decodable Books, and Preschool Read & Play kits.

Bob Books

Bob Books Set 3 Word Families

Bob Books is a first-reader series that gives young children the tools to cross from learning letters to reading words in a simple and straightforward way. The clean layout, short words, and simple phonics make learning to read a fun and natural step for a child who knows the alphabet. Each set contains 12 boxes, progressing from books with three-letter words to books with more than one sentence per page. We developed this collection after receiving both customer and staff requests to acquire them.

Little Levelled Readers

Books in the Little Leveled Readers series are not too easy or too hard—they're just right! That's because they've been carefully evaluated by a reading specialist to correspond with the Scholastic Guided Reading levels. Each kits contains 4 to 5 books. Levels A-D have 3 sets each, and Levels E-H have 2 sets. We introduced this collection after hearing great things about the Readers from parents in the community—including some work colleagues with kids!

Decodable Books

For readers with dyslexia or children and teens who find reading print a challenge, decodable books focus on familiar letters and sound relationships. Decodable text helps readers gain confidence as they experience success with word-level reading.

We chose to add decodable books to our collection after learning how decodable text can support children with dyslexia. We also liked the fact that the books can be used to help with pronunciation and phonics.

Vox/WonderBooks

three Vox/WonderBook book covers

Wonderbooks are read-aloud books with a ready-to-play audiobook right inside the book! Kids can "read along" to the recorded content by pressing the play button inside the book's front cover. With Wonderbooks, kids see the words they hear and learn to identify letters and printed words—and they are introduced to beginning technology.

Vox/Wonderbooks joined our collection after consulting our vendors and reviewing early literacy research. After seeing their popularity with the community, we expanded this collection.

Preschool Read & Play Kits

Each kit has a theme—Barnyard Fun, Things That Go, Zoo, Bugs, Pets, to name a few—and is filled with assorted books, activity sheets, props, and puppets—perfect for a literacy-based interactive playtime with your preschooler. We developed these colourful kits to be fun, engaging, and help support different styles of learning.
