Upcoming Construction & Temporary Closures at BPL Branches

The nice weather is almost here to stay, but it brings another season—construction! Burlington Public Library’s Brant Hills and Kilbride branches will be temporarily closing this spring and summer. Both the City of Burlington and Halton District School Board have significant construction projects planned at the Brant Hills Community Centre and Kilbride Public School, where these branches are housed.

We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding during these closures and apologize for the inconvenience. Here’s what you can expect over the coming months at these two branches.

Brant Hills Closure – June 1 to July 5

The City is replacing the roof, HVAC, and lighting system in the building. The ceiling must be opened for this work, so the branch must close for that portion of the project. Brant Hills Branch will be closed from June 1 to July 5, reopening July 6.

Regularly scheduled programs will not run during the closure. BPL is exploring pop-up programming and Summer Reading Club registration options for the Brant Hills neighbourhood. Stay tuned for more information!

Important Dates

  • May 20: Last day to place holds for pickup at Brant Hills Branch
  • May 31: Last open day at Brant Hills Branch
  • June 1: Brant Hills Branch is closed, including book drop
  • July 6: Planned reopening of Brant Hills Branch

Please note the book drop will not be available during the closure. You can return your items to any other BPL location. The nearest branches are Tansley Woods Branch (1996 Itabashi Way) and Alton Branch (3040 Tim Dobbie Drive). If you have difficulty returning items to another library location, please speak with staff at the branch, call 905.639.3611, or use our Contact Us form for help.

Brant Hills customers will receive an email with more information about the closure and holds pickup instructions.

We are working with the City to minimize service disruptions as much as possible, but we expect there may be additional brief closures in late summer to complete construction. We will update the community as this is confirmed.

Kilbride Closure – June 28 to September 7

Kilbride Branch will be closed from June 28 to September 7, reopening September 8. The branch is closing for safety reasons while Halton District School Board completes several infrastructure and accessibility upgrades at Kilbride Public School. These upgrades affect the shared building entrance and the outside wall of the library.

Upcoming Construction Work at Central Branch
