Letters to Santa at BPL

Due to the postal service strike, Santa's personalized replies to letters sent to the North Pole may not arrive in time for Christmas this year. In the meantime, Santa has teamed up with Burlington Public Library to provide an alternative.

Santa will be dropping off batches of letters to all seven of BPL's branches for pickup starting December 14. Visit the customer service desk to pick up a letter. Staff may ask for your child's age to help find the right letter for them. There is no cost to pick up one of these letters.

All letters dropped off at BPL through the Letters to Santa program have been sent to the North Pole. Canada Post has stated that Santa will be sending personalized reply letters through Canada Post, but cannot guarantee when they will arrive at homes.

A note to parents and caregivers: the letters Santa has dropped off at BPL will not be personalized with names. A digital template is available here for anyone who wishes to create a personalized letter on their own device or a BPL computer/printer. Printing charges will apply. About BPL's Letters to Santa Program

The Library's cherished Letters to Santa program has been running for decades. The program provides supplies for kids to write letters to Santa and collects them in a big mock mailbox placed at each branch before they are sent to the North Pole through Canada Post. It launched on November 1 this year in hopes an agreement would be reached between Canada Post and the postal workers union well before the holidays.

When planning this year, Library staff established a backup option but didn't expect it would be needed. Despite the uncertainty, the Library wanted to continue to offer a special chance for families to kick off their holiday season while promoting learning and literacy. This year, BPL has seen participation jump by more than 50 percent.
