Fall brings changing leaves, cooling temperatures, Halloween fun, and one of our favourite celebrations—Ontario Public Library Week! This year’s theme, Loud for Libraries, is all about showing your support for public libraries and sharing what your library means to you.
The Role of Public Libraries
Libraries create connections. Our doors are open to everyone. Libraries bring people together and connect them with services and resources. You can learn a new skill, meet your neighbours, or simply enjoy a welcoming place to spend some time.
Libraries provide trusted information. In a world of automation, libraries offer reliable local information and help from real people. We help customers use government services, do research, and build skills and confidence to try something new.
Libraries protect your freedom to read. Libraries are free public spaces where everyone can access a wide range of information and ideas. Reading about people and experiences that are different from our own helps us learn, grow, and understand different points of view.
How You Can Support Libraries
With more than 1 million visits to BPL branches last year and more than 2 million items borrowed, Burlington clearly loves its library—and we couldn’t be more grateful! As we celebrate Ontario Public Library Week, here are a few more ways you can get loud for libraries!
Borrow One More
One of the easiest ways you can show your support is by simply using your library card! The next time you visit your local library branch, grab an extra item, like a new book, a pass to visit local attractions for free, or new year-round seeds for your garden.
Tell a Friend
Libraries are places where people can meet, spend time together, and feel part of their community. Share your love of the library with a friend and invite them to visit a branch, try an activity, or drop by one of our weekly meetups.
Provide Feedback
We’re always working to make our collections, spaces, programs, and services even better. If you have feedback or a positive story to share, contact us online or fill out a comment card the next time you visit a branch. We’d love to hear from you!
Show Your Library Love
Starting October 19, pick up a free sticker at any BPL branch and proudly show your support for libraries. Stickers are available during Ontario Public Library Week while supplies last.
And when you see our truck out delivering holds around the city, give us a honk and a wave!
