Our Newcomers Corner at each library location has Newcomers Corner at Central Library imagepamphlets about federal, provincial and municipal programs relevant to newcomers needs.

Burlington Public Library, Halton Multicultural Council (funded by CIC) and The Centre for Skills Development and Training have partnered to offer programs that assist newcomers:

Settlement Worker in the Library Program

Central Library:  Every Friday, Builders Room, 2nd floor. Call to confirm dates
If you are new to Canada and need help getting settled, a visiting settlement worker from the Halton Multicultural Council can assist you in many ways:

  • government document application
  • employment and job search
  • information and referral to local services
  • document translation
  • help with school enrollment
  • budgeting
  • finding affordable housing

The Canadian Citizenship Test: Get Ready!

Central Library:

  • Monthly on  Fridays
  • Call to confirm dates
  • Builders Room, 2nd floor, Central Library
  • 10:00 am-1:00 pm

This  program includes practice tests, checking your application online, completing the application form, documents to bring on test day, the Oath of Citizenship, and Citizen and Immigration Canada (CIC) contact information.

ESL Conversation Circles

When: Every Monday evening
Where: Frank Rose Room, 1st floor, Central Library

No classes in August

Classes will be offered every Monday:

7:30-9:00 pm Intermediate and Advanced

New speakers of English are invited to come and talk informally with others. Build your confidence speaking English and meet new people during this FREE weekly program. Come to as many sessions as you like.

Computer Classes for Newcomers

Mondays 6:30-8:30 pm

6week program where newcomers learn basic computer skills.
