Local Authors

Burlington Public Library is hosting a Local Author Fair on Sat June 22—and we’re seeking recently published writers who would love an opportunity to showcase their work with the community.

Writers of all genres, audiences, and formats (including graphic novels and comics), are invited to apply to participate in this FREE community event.


  • You have published, either through a publishing company or self-published, at least one physical book title within the past 10 years.
  • You live or work within Halton Region.

About the Fair
Between 10am and 2pm, authors:

  • Meet & greet readers of all ages at a your own table in Central branch.
  • Promote and sell your book.

The day also features a panel of local authors discussing the crime genre and sub-genres hosted by Crime Writers of Canada, and opportunities for authors to read from their work.

The event offers writers:

  • Time to engage with the community to  promote and sell your work.
  • A stimulating day devoted to the open exchange of ideas and information.
  • The opportunity inspire upcoming writers and network with other authors.

Apply to Participate
Local authors are invited to apply to participate in the Local Author Fair by submitting a completed online application by March 31, 2019 - see link below.

Spaces are limited. Final selection may be by lottery based on the number of suitable applications received. Authors will receive confirmation of their participation by May 1.

  • Spaces are limited, and authors will receive confirmation from the library that they are participating. Table location will be assigned by the library.
  • The Library is not endorsing any of the books or authors.
  • Participation does not guarantee that titles will be added to the Library's collection.
  • The Library will not accept donated copies of books by the authors.
  • There is no monetary compensation to authors for participating.
  • Content of published works must align with Burlington Public Library's Intellectual Freedom Policy, and as such, abide by all laws dictated at the federal, provincial, or municipal level, including the Criminal Code of Canada.
